چکیده

* Corresponding author. Abstract – The Worldview-2 satellite imagery with 2-m spatial resolution and 8 spectral bands is used to map the coastal ecosystems for our study site, an offshore island of Singapore. The eastern side of the study area is used as a landfill, while the western part of the island is left natural with rich biodiversity where large stretches of seagrass meadow, mangroves and coral reefs are distributed in the intertidal zone. An image acquired during low tide was first corrected for Rayleigh scattering and gaseous absorption in the atmosphere. Unsupervised classification and contextual editing were used to create the final coastal ecosystem map which contains information on both substrate types and the habitats cover. Field surveys were also conducted. The produced map will be used for coastal assessment and management and as well as for comparative study.

Automatic Sun Glint Removal of Multispectral High-Resolution Worldview-2 Imagery for Retrieving Coastal Shallow Water Parameters

Remote sensing of coastal areas requires multispectral satellite images with a high spatial resolution. In this sense, WorldView-2 is a very high resolution satellite, which provides an advanced multispectral sensor with eight narrow bands, allowing the proliferation of new environmental monitoring and mapping applications in shallow coastal ecosystems. These challenges need the accurate determ...

Improved coastal wetland mapping using very-high 2-meter spatial resolution imagery

Accurate wetland maps are a fundamental requirement for land use management and for wetland restoration planning. Several wetland map products are available today; most of them based on remote sensing images, but their different data sources and mapping methods lead to substantially different estimations of wetland location and extent. We used two very high-resolution (2 m) WorldView-2 satellit...

Habitat Mapping and Change Assessment of Coastal Environments: An Examination of WorldView-2, QuickBird, and IKONOS Satellite Imagery and Airborne LiDAR for Mapping Barrier Island Habitats

Habitat mapping can be accomplished using many techniques and types of data. There are pros and cons for each technique and dataset, therefore, the goal of this project was to investigate the capabilities of new satellite sensor technology and to assess map accuracy for a variety of image classification techniques based on hundreds of field-work sites. The study area was Masonboro Island, an un...

Benthic Habitat Mapping Using Multispectral High-Resolution Imagery: Evaluation of Shallow Water Atmospheric Correction Techniques

Remote multispectral data can provide valuable information for monitoring coastal water ecosystems. Specifically, high-resolution satellite-based imaging systems, as WorldView-2 (WV-2), can generate information at spatial scales needed to implement conservation actions for protected littoral zones. However, coastal water-leaving radiance arriving at the space-based sensor is often small as comp...
